I’m sure you know by now that I love handmade goods. They have a certain charm and uniqueness that just make me unbelievably happy. I also love toys that foster creativity and learning. I came across Ye Gingerbread Cottage on Etsy and saw her Numbered Wool Balls, I knew I needed a set for Lily! I contacted the shop’s owner, Ginger, and together we brainstormed the perfect set for me and Lily – a Rainbow Set of 10 numbered wool balls!
Ginger calls these numbered balls a “Waldorf Inspired Educational Toy” and it’s easy to see why. They appeal to 3 of the 5 senses – they are soft squishy tactile balls with soft-sounding rattles and are made in vibrant eye-catching colors. They are an excellent way to teach children about numbers, colors and the spectrum while inviting free and creative play.
Lily loves to take them, one by one, out of their bin – and then replace them in the bin, again one by one. She also likes to throw them to me… and to Phineas, who thought they were mighty fun to use to play keep-away (so be mindful if you have a dog, he or she will steal them!). As Lily throws them to me, I tell her the color and number, then throw it back. As she gets older, I know that she will come up with even more creative ways to play with these awesome toys! I personally like challenging myself to a little game of “basket-ball” – I average 10 out of 10 (no lie!). *smile*
Ginger also makes wool dryer balls, which are great alternatives to using dryer sheets – just be aware that mixing natural fibers and synthetics (aka, mixing cotton with polyester) is what causes the most static, so try to separate your laundry to get the best results when using dryer balls in lieu of dryer sheets. my SIMPLE star rating :: 5 out of 5
