My daughter is 5 years old and we send her to preschool 3 days a week. Next year is the biggie – 5 full days of Kindergarten. While kindergarten is a year away, we’re trying our best to get some of the basics learning skills done here at home.
Recently, we’ve been playing with the over-sized (10.5″ x 4.5″) flashcards by Alphabotz to learn our basic phonics of the English language. I say “playing”, because when we’re working with them, we forget that we’re learning because they are so fun!
What is an Alphabotz flashcard? It’s a card that depicts a different robot, or Alphabotz, and children learn about phonics through visual clues, sound association and stats. Kids can play with them on their own, play cool games in a group, or sit with an adult for a more in depth learning experience. Know what else is cool? The flashcards are compatible with a standard dry erase marker!
Designed and created by a mother and teacher, Alphabotz flashcards will take learning and reading to a whole new level of learning through having a good time.
The cards are so versatile that they are well suited for the +3 crowd all the way through early
reader. What we love about these cards is how they are a great tool for the preschooler just learning letter recognition all the way through the elementary age child who is learning to put letters together to form words.
With my 5 year old, we’re working one nailing the difference between a consonant and vowel, and the difference between a “short” and “long” vowel sound.
Don’t believe us? It was recently named one of Dr. Toy’s “100 Best Products” for 2009 and a Tillywig Toy & Media Award Brain Child Award!
GET YOUR OWN (with a coupon)! Purchase a set of Alphabotz flashcards ($19.95 retail) off Amazon and enter KSBLOGS1 at checkout to receive 20% off! Discount good only through 12/18 on Amazon.

These are great! As the child learns the story of the Alphabot, they learn the sound recognitions and words that go along with that particular one. Great tool to work with.
